Gravel Endurance is a home for riders aged 50 and beyond who want to experience more freedom, adventure, and confidence on the bike — whether that’s local gravel loops, multi-day bikepacking trips, or e-gravel exploration across the UK.
If you’re new to gravel, returning to cycling after years away, or chasing bigger goals with a bit more wisdom in your legs, you’re in the right place.
Here you’ll find:
- Beginner-friendly gravel and bikepacking routes
- Practical training and recovery guidance for riders over 50
- Real-world gear reviews focused on comfort and reliability
- Bikepacking tips and overnight trip ideas
- Stories and advice from riders redefining what midlife adventure looks like
Gravel Endurance is where experience meets exploration — and where every ride is an opportunity to discover something new.
Why I Started Gravel Endurance
I’m Jon Turnbull — lifelong cyclist, late convert to gravel, and firm believer that adventure doesn’t have an age limit.
After decades of road and trail riding, I found gravel cycling in my fifties and was instantly hooked. Quiet tracks, new landscapes, wide-open space — it felt like rediscovering cycling all over again.
But when I looked for guidance that spoke to older riders — those who want adventure but also need to think about recovery, strength, comfort, confidence, and the realities of an ageing body — I found very little.
So I created Gravel Endurance to fill that gap.
A space built for riders like us:
- Experienced, but realistic
- Adventurous, but smart
- Strong, but also aware of our limits
- Excited to try new things — including bikepacking
This is cycling with no pressure, no judgement, and no age barriers. Just the joy of exploring on two wheels.
Bikepacking for Beginners (and Beyond)
More and more riders in their 50s and 60s are discovering bikepacking — and for good reason:
- It’s simple
- It’s affordable
- It’s peaceful
- It’s adventurous
- And it fits perfectly with gravel riding
At Gravel Endurance, bikepacking has become a core part of the mission.
You’ll find practical guides, packing lists, beginner-friendly overnighters, and route ideas designed specifically for riders who want to try their first trip without feeling overwhelmed.
